Salary Range - Band 5 £23,113 - £29,905/Band 6 £28,050 – £37,010

Part time post 19.5 hours per week

The Gilbert Bain Hospital is based in Shetland’s main town of Lerwick and provides general medical, surgical, rehabilitation and maternity inpatient services to a population of approximately 22,000. The hospital also has an extensive outpatient department which is supported by Visiting Specialist Consultants, A&E facilities and is the base for the majority of Allied Health Professionals.

The post holder will be required to work predominantly in anaesthetics/ recovery but there will be scope to work in Scrub as well. Candidates with theatre experience will be considered however opportunities for training will also be available. Depending on experience and qualifications there may be an opportunity to develop as Theatre Team Leader.

As a Registered Nurse or Operating Department Practitioner, it would be advantageous if you already possess a nationally recognised qualification in Anaesthetic Assistance or the NES Core Competencies for Anaesthetic Assistants. Consideration will also be given to candidates who are in the process of completing applicable training to this post.

The post holder will be able to manage all aspects of patient care in the theatre suite. The post is to provide patient centred care from admission to discharge; to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care for patients undergoing theatre procedures in varied specialties.

In this key role you will contribute to the development of the service and help provide education and training to other members theatre nursing team.

The anaesthetic nursing team also provides support for emergency care in other areas of the hospital including A&E and Maternity. There is an on-call commitment for which an allowance is payable.
